Holy Synod of Greece Approves of Two New Patron Saints in the Medical Field


The Standing Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, on Friday 8 June 2018, under the presidency of Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, approved among other things, of two new patron saints in the medical field.

The Hellenic Rheumatological Society proposed the proclamation of Saint Gregory the Theologian as its patron. Rheumatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the study and treatment of pathologies of the muscles or tendons or joints.

The Panhellenic Association of Physiotherapists proposed the proclamation of Saint Therapon of Cyprus as its patron. Physiotherapy helps restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability.
